Equipment
- Roasting pan
- Tongs or basting spoon
- Chef's knife
- Cutting board
Ingredients
- 1 whole chicken (about 1.5 kg)
- 50 g butter
- 4 garlic cloves
- Fresh thyme
- Salt
- Black pepper
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
Instructions
- 1. Preheat the oven to 180°C (355°F).
- 2. Remove the chicken from the refrigerator 20 minutes before roasting to allow it to come closer to room temperature.
- 3. Generously season the cavity with salt, pepper, garlic, and thyme.
- 4. Rub the softened butter all over the chicken.
- 5. Drizzle with a little oil and place the chicken in a roasting pan.
- 6. Roast for about 1 hour and 15 minutes, basting regularly with the pan juices.
- 7. Finish with 5 minutes at 210°C (410°F) for an extra crispy, golden skin.
Chef's Tip
Add potatoes directly to the roasting pan so they cook in the chicken juices for maximum flavor with minimal effort.
Mistakes to Avoid
Never pierce the chicken skin while roasting. It allows the juices to escape and the meat will become less tender.
Serving Suggestions
Serve with roasted potatoes, seasonal vegetables, or a simple green salad.
